Sabbatical in Central Europe

I participated in the 10th Implementation and Coordination Meeting of the GRUAN (Global Climate Observing System (GCOS) Reference Upper-Air Network), in Potsdam, Germany, 23 to 27 April 2018. It included a site visit to German Meteorological Service (DWD) core station in Lindenberg, near Berlin. The video shows the lauching of a weather balloon. More on GRUAN https://www.gruan.org/ . I had the pleasant surprise to met Dr. June Wang. I had not seen June for many years, I believe since the 2011 IUGG Scientific Assembly in Melbourne, when she was a key-note speaker in the Symposium I was convening. Yesterday, Tram 92 got involved in an accident with a small car on Friedrich-Ebert Strasse. First time I saw such accident. The whole street went to a standstill until the police arrived to take pictures of the accident. Ontem, o bonde 92 se envolveu eu um acidente com um pequeno carro na Friedrich-Ebert Strasse. Primeira vez que eu ví tal acidente. A rua parou por completo até que a polícia chegasse para tirar fotos do acidente.

We are back to Vienna! One of our favourite spots in the world. We returned to spend some time in Europe but this time without Churchill who stayed at home in Canada. Estamos de volta a Viena! Um dos nossos lugares favoritos no mundo. Voltamos para passar algum tempo na Europa, mas desta vez sem Churchill, que ficou em casa no Canadá. I am attending the European Geosciences Union General Assembly 2018. In parallel, several meetings at TU Vienna with Daniel and Johannes, meetings of the International Association of Geodesy (IAG) Executive and meetings related to IAG Commission 4, which I preside.
